CBS@2: Blogging for Cebu and More

In two years, blogging in Cebu has ripened from just being a mere online diary to something that takes an active role in civic and social awareness.
One of the factors that contributed to this positive development in the blogging scene in Cebu is the creation of a local blogging community. The Cebu Bloggers Society was founded on February 14, 2008, with the main goal of uniting Cebu-based bloggers into a well-bonded community. And indeed, after its creation, individuals with diverse backgrounds but with a common interest, which is to promote Cebu and advocate blogging as a key tool for progress, converged together to establish Cebu’s first and largest blogging community.

After gaining numerous recognition from various business entities and communities, Cebu Bloggers Society shall celebrate not only for its achievements but as well as its milestone -- promoting Cebu through blogging for two years and counting. To reckon, the group engaged in promoting and covering significant events in the locale. The group's mighty weapons (weblogs) have helped a lot to the success of numerous events held in Cebu. The group has also done some charity works and participated in both government and non-government related activities. All these and more have made Cebu Bloggers Society a multi-awarded group in Cebu. Growing up in an island with magnificent beaches and tourist spots, it is usual for me to spend my mini vacation or weekends on a pearl-white beach. Most of the time, I go to the nearest beach from our place and spend my weekend hanging out with friends and play with our cool skimboards. And that makes me a real beach bum.

Cebu Bloggers Society for PBA 2009 Special Awards: Blogger’s Choice

It’s almost a year ago when I joined Cebu Bloggers Society. My journey with CBS started when a friend of mine (a pioneering CBS member) asked me to create the group’s official logo. With my great interest in web and graphics design, I never hesitated to take a shot in creating the group’s graphic identity. And to my surprise, the logo was chosen to be the group’s official identity.

Eventually, I was held as one of the official members of the group. Given the immense enthusiasm I have in the World Wide Web particularly with online journals and web design, I actively joined the group’s various activities and shared the same passion with its members.

Now, I continue supporting the group in its endeavors and aim of promoting Cebu through blogging. Although I have become inactive for quite sometime in blogging for some personal reasons, I still continue sharing thoughts and help in the group in my own little ways.

ASUS Ultimate 2009 Overclocking Show

As a personal computer enthusiast with a mind for optimization, I always try to make sure that I have made the most out of my computer hardware. I really can’t help but find new ways to increase the performance of my personal computer for my graphics and gaming needs. For one, I was able to upgrade the display adapter and RAM for my PC. But then all of the upgrades were to no avail --I still get unsatisfactory performance.

Last 2007, I came across about this hardware tweaking called overclocking and it promises to increase overall performance of your computer. I was so delighted to hear this breakthrough but then I was never able to apply it for my computer hardware for some reasons. Hopefully this time I’ll get the chance to have enough time and mind to tweak my computer through some interventions.

Talking about interventions, this time around, great news is being spread all over the blogosphere about overclocking. Thanks to fellow blogger Iggy who informed me about this upcoming event that highlights an overclocking competition.

According to Iggy, ASUS , the thriving 3C (computer, communications, and consumer electronics) solution provider will invade Cebu for an ultimate PC fair which will be held at the SM City Cebu Atrium. The ASUS Ultimate PC Fair runs from May 14-24, 2009. And as one of the highlights in this event, ASUS is going to have a competition on overclocking skills using hardware from the different brands. The competition will be held at SM Entertainment Plaza on May 23, 2009 from 3:00-5:00 in the afternoon.

Yes! Talk about tips and tricks there! and the Cebu Bloggers Society shall invade the event, too!

A New Found Treasure

One of the best things that happened to me this year was being able to camp out with the Cebu Bloggers Society. It was a night of coming together as a group, keeping together as friends, and working together as a team.

I thought the day is going to be an ordinary weekend with one of the coolest people in Cebu. It was a lazy Saturday afternoon when I gathered some stuffs for the camp out. My fellow blogger Miong and I together headed towards the meeting place. And there we met some of our fellow bloggers waiting for the others who will be joining the event. When everyone was all set, we hurried up and got a ride towards the final venue. The bivouacking took place in one of the best places in Cebu-on the breathtaking residence of the Mendoza Family in Jardin de Busay, Brgy. Busay (…our heartfelt gratitude to Evanjohnn and his family for the venue!)

The event started with some hilarious activities. The getting-to-know-you activity was so entertaining that one the bloggers complained about the pain in his jaw (LOL… Mr. President). The event continued with some tricky games courtesy of Evanjohnn. Everyone laughed hard and almost sweat off with the rest of the activities. The fun games and challenges were set to bring out a team within the group. The activities were indeed great in building a team among the group.

The night was completed with a sumptuous meal, a karaoke, and a soothing drinking session by the pool. As we got to the middle of the night, some were already drowsy and some continued the laughter with all sorts of jokes, and some enlightening talks. And when the early morning came, some started to dry up and ready their selves for some rest while some were still having fun with the guitar and some schmooze.

The morning light greeted everyone with a cold mountain breeze. Right before our breakfast was served, some continued the fun with some childhood jokes which were quite nostalgic in my case. And when we started taking our breakfast, everyone suddenly became as quite as the mountains (LOL… yummy breakfast indeed…thanks to Mikyu, Evanjohnn, and the rest those who prepared the food).

And so the sweating continued. Right after we finished our morning meal, we ready ourselves and headed towards a valley where some of the rarest creatures can be seen. It was a great activity especially for those who are living a sedentary life. Some sweat out their colds while some enjoyed the fresh air and the challenging trek towards the bottom part of the mountains. After a healthy walk from going down and climbing up the valley, another memory was cherished.

The whole event was full of fun and laughter. Some enjoyed taking photos; some did unwind their selves. But there was one thing that everyone surely did during the entire event – it was creating wonderful memories. The camp out may have been a night of coming together as a group, keeping together as friends, and working together as a team but for me it was a night of finding a new family – a new found treasure.

And that weekend was never ordinary after all.

Winning MTV+ME: Another Milestone

What can a stack of post-it, a small pouch, and a dash of cleverness do? Well, these can lead someone to stardom. Ha ha ha. Just last year, I came across with this online community of graphic artist (Eyeka Community) and got the chance to be part of them. I was greatly pleased when I realize that the community is open to worldwide graphic design related jobs/challenge. And since I love being in a competition, I took a shot in joining MTV's infamous station id design contest. Unexpectedly, my piece got selected. I was really surprised when I received the e-mail telling me that I am one of the winners in the recently concluded competition from MTV. Few days later, I received another e-mail from Eyeka telling me that my work is already aired worldwide (I was like, "Is this for real?")... Ha ha ha. Like most of those who are into digital photography, I myself can't also help but take advantage of technology when it comes to aesthetics. I'm no pro in photography but at least I can turn unpleasant photos into something worth showing off. In the above photo, it's quite obvious that I used huge amount of effects in photoshop just to get rid off those freckles and wrinkles. It's deceiving, but yes! I have subjectively made an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.

This is my new gizmo! It's a new born graphic tablet from WACOM. It's the BAMBOO model that comes cheaper than the other pen tablet models. I love using it with my favorite graphics software. Sadly, my little mouse has to rest in peace 'coz my new pen is going to take its place. My keyboard is envious at how the pen does the clicking, highlights, right click, double click, and best of all the "hand writing recognition feature"! Bwahahahaha! Poor old keyboard... (grin)

Oh! The one eyed illustration of a young lass... this untitled work was done using my very own WACOM Bamboo Pen Tablet in Photoshop CS2. My inspiration for this digital painting were brown eyes. I'm always fascinated with colorful eyes. Brown eyes can make someone look so sexy that everytime I get to see one it just turns me on .

I never really thought of making something like this... I'm into vector art actually. But I just made the most out of my new graphic tablet... Guess how much creative juice I can squeeze out from this new gizmo - it's bottomless!
